My offspring

All land hermit crabs that you can buy are wild-caught!

One more reason to try everything to breed these beautiful animals.

After we provided our terrariums with the pool, we got this chance! Because from this point on they released their eggs in the seawater pool quite often.
Our offspring projects started …
Note: I use the term “offspring” and that means offspring in captivity. The eggs were produced by my hermit crabs, which have lived with me for a long time.

Project No. 1 – 3 “The failed attempts”
When the first larvae came, we had little information about the rearing. Nevertheless, we dared to do it experimentally.

With every failure we learned something new. The disappointment, however, became immeasurableFortunately, I found help in the IfmN forum . There I got the tip to try it with a growing top. Some breeders have already had success with complicated marine animals.
There were also many other very helpful tips about the care and nutrition of crab larvae. And I learned a lot about sea water and cleaning breeding tanks …

Project No. 4 “The First Success” C. violascens

Thanks to the help of experienced breeders of marine animals and the IfmN forum , it actually succeeded in the fourth attempt! 🙂
It looks like the world’s first land hermit crabs bred. Definitely the first C. violascens offspring worldwide.
